Joan S. Walsh (nee Philburn), of Bloomfield, died on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021. She was 85. "Joannie" was born in Kearny where she graduated high school, and then immediately started working as a key-punch operator in the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark. She worked for many years and retired from Dowell Insurance Agency in 2000. More recently, Joan enjoyed spending her time preparing and serving meals to the community at the FaithWorks Kitchen in Paterson and volunteering at the 55 KIP Center in Rutherford where she also attended exercise classes. Joan was also a devoted member of the United Reformed Church in Clifton. But above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Presbyterian Church 375 Van Houten Street, Paterson, NJ 07501. Please note “FaithWorks Kitchen In Memory of Joan Walsh”. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Benedict, who passed in 2006. She leaves behind two daughters, Jean Bretz (William) and Patricia Murphy (James); a son, David Walsh; as well as five grandchildren – Alison and Eric Bretz; Brendan, Erin, and Megan Murphy. Joan also leaves behind a sister, Eleanor Foggan (John).
