Obituary of Mary Walsh Howard
Mary Walsh Howard of Bloomfield, NJ passed away on June 18, 2019 after a long and wonderful life, surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held at Halpin-Bitecola Brookdale Funeral Home, 1284 Broad St. Bloomfield, NJ on Friday, June 21st from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Ave. Bloomfield, NJ on Saturday, June 22nd at 10:00 am and Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
Mary was born June 10, 1933 in New York City to Arthur and Clara Walsh, and she was baptized in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. At the age of 10, Mary and her family moved to Stanhope, NJ. She graduated from Netcong High School in 1950 and the Stafford Hall Business School in Summit, NJ in 1951. She worked as an Executive Secretary for the Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill and Whippany, NJ.
While working in Whippany, Mary met and married the love of her life, Jack Howard, in September 1956. They remained married for 62 years and raised three sons while living in Bloomfield, NJ. She was a loyal and active member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield, and she lived her life practicing her strong religious values. She was very active in the Bloomfield Oakview school PTA and served as a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts for many years.
Mary had a full and wonderful life. She loved and devoted her life to her family. Her generous spirit, warm personality, unselfish nature and sense of humor impacted all who knew her. She was a loving mother and a devoted wife who always put her family first. She especially enjoyed the summers that she spent with her family at their home in Ocean Beach, NJ.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Clara, her sister Margaret, and her brothers Edward and Richard. Mary is survived by her loving husband Jack, her three beloved sons and their families; Jack and Kelly of Silver Spring, Maryland; Jeffrey and Kathy of Clinton Township, NJ; William and Maria of Ponte Vedra, Florida; seven loving grandchildren, Ben and his wife Amy of Olney, Maryland, Molly of Olney, Maryland, Megan and Erin of Clinton Township, NJ, and Brian, Christopher, and Matthew of Ponta Vedra, Florida; three great grandchildren John, Daniel, and Theo of Olney, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Ave. Bloomfield, NJ 07003.
